The KMC has formed a risk assessment committee to carrying out visual assessment, receive applications from the landlords and decide on the ways to dismantle the houses.

And based on the recommendation of the committee, a security team led by Nepali Army carries out the demolition work, according to assistant CDO of Kathmandu Surendra Poudel.
As of Thursday, more than 1,200 house owners in the KMC have applied for KMC support in demolition of their houses.them remains a huge problem along with the daunting task of clearing the debris.
A total of 5,061 houses were fully damaged while 18,537 houses suffered partial damage in Kathmandu Municipal Corporation alone, according to Chief of the KMC disaster management unit Bir Bahadur Khadka. Likewise, 23 government offices were fully destroyed and 21 partially damaged in the earthquake.
The KMC has been received applications from more than 50 house owners everyday with a request to demolish their quake-damaged houses. However, lack of necessary equipment and narrow lanes leading to such houses is making the task very difficult, says Chief of the KMC physical development and construction department Dr Uttar Regmi.
