They all have the red card (provided by the government to the people with complete disabilities), but have not been provided the financial assistance for the past two years. “We many times visited different government and social organisations including the District Women and Children Welfare Office to the Sagarmatha Disabled Association, seeking help, but to no avail,” Shambhu Three families with some of their members living with physical disabilities at Gamhariya Prabaha VDC-4 in Saptari are in a desperate need of humanitarian assistance. Shambhu Mandal, 50, his younger brother Shivanarayan, 45, spouse Gitadevi, sister Jayakala Mandal, 42, and a son are all blind. Shambhu is the father of two daughters and two sons (one of his son and wife are disabled) while Shivanarayan has two sons and a daughter. Jayakala is a mother of two sons and a daughter. All these families are struggling hard even to feed their children, as they say. Though social security allowance being distributed by the government for people with physical disabilities for the past 5-6 years, was of some help to the affected families, they have been deprived of this state facility since the past two years.
